Club Royale
|
| In some ways, Club Royale may still be the worst slot club in the Las Vegas area. Formerly, the club did not distribute a single piece of printed literature. However by popular demand, the casino now distributes a single piece of double sided cardboard. So much of the following information is derived from a few scattered signs, reader boards on the walls and at the machines, and hot air from between the lips of the slot booth personnel. As bad as this may sound, the club, as it now stands, is an improvement over its previous condition. Recently the slot club has begun issuing a funbook to new members. The funbook contains eight coupons, three for table games, two for video poker, two for slots, and one coupon for either slots or video poker. If you are a new member, my advice is to obtain the funbook (technically a funsheet) and use only the single $5 match play coupon. Redemption of the other coupons is quite time consuming and definitely high variance. On inserting your slot card into the card reader of a machine, you will see your name. The mini-visual will then display your current benefit accumulation based on your previous slot/video poker play. Then, instead of the standard procedure of giving the player a number from which to countdown to get a slot point, the system at Casino Royale has an internal and unseen counting process which will activate during your slot/video poker play. The system gives some intermittent information during play. The number on the reader display is structured as a dollar and cent figure with an initial setting of $0.00. As you play a slot or video poker machine, this 'financial' figure will increase in one-cent leaps. The meaning of this financial figure is currently unclear. It had some meaning under the previous system but that system is no longer in effect. As you are playing any slot or video poker machine at Casino Royale with your slot card properly inserted, you are simultaneously earning slot points and complimentaries. You are obtaining some unknown amount of credit toward complimentaries. Information about the extent of the complimentaries you have earned is only available by request at the slot club booth. Club Royale distributes food complimentaries to associated eateries. My understanding is that the collecting of food complimentaries is a field of potholes and land mines. Food complimentaries do occur but the level of play is rather high to obtain these benefits. These unknown quantities of comps expire if not redeemed within one year. But since, as the cardboard says, these comps are "issued at management's discretion," you really don't have much of anything anyway. Now the slot points are another matter. The slot points expire if you cease to play for 48 hours. Yep, the points just magically disappear. And as the informative cardboard says, "No point adjustments will be made for any reason." Therefore, never return to Casino Royale with the intention of using the items remaining on your slot card from last year's visit. It is this requirement of using the slot card within every 48-hour period which, in my opinion, severely undermines the slot club system of Casino Royale. Of course, I don't hesitate to admit that I may be wrong in this matter. There may be worse things about this slot club as the cardboard implies when you read at the bottom, "Other restrictions may apply." It makes a fellow shudder. |
