So You Like To Sing
There are over 32,000 members in the Society for the Preservation and
Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA). We
would like YOU to join us in a local chapter in your area.
There is also the Sweet Adelines society for the ladies.
You don't have to be a great singer. We are almost all amateurs, yet we do gigs and put on shows that entertain a diverse audience. You are welcome to visit a chapter meeting and see how much fun we have. Let me help you find a chapter near you.
Everyone is welcome. We have members of all races and religions, with ages ranging from 10 to 96. No musical or entertainment background is needed. The only qualifications are that you love to sing and can carry a tune. We are a very friendly group. Wives and friends are welcome to visit.
If you live in the Four Corners area, I am currently looking for men to fill out a quartet. I sing baritone or tenor. We need a good bass and a good lead. We expect to do a mix of solid barbershop, mixed with doo wop and comedy, with perhaps some magic thrown in.
The lead sings the melody most of the time. In a quartet, the lead actually leads the singing. The bass lays the foundation, the tenor harmonizes above the lead (mostly in falsetto), and the baritone fills in whatever fourth note is needed to complete a consonant "ringing" chord. You may be surprised at how easy it is for you to learn to sing barbershop harmony and how much fun you can have doing it.
