In 1984, Golden Nugget became the first casino in Las Vegas to offer a slot club. That doesn't mean that it was the first slot club in the United States. The first slot club was created in Atlantic City (Sands Casino, 1982) as a marketing gimmick. Unfortunately, we cannot go into the many facets of the history of slot clubs in a book of this size.

With repeated sales of the Golden Nugget, the slot club has undergone many changes. Currently, when you enroll in MGM Mirage Players Club, you will have a card that is valid at Bellagio, Golden Nugget, MGM Grand, The Mirage, New York-New York, and Treasure Island. The points earned at any location can be used at any of the other locations.

When the slot card is properly inserted into the card reader, your name and current total slot points will be revealed followed by wishes of good luck. However, no countdown will be presented. Instead the machine will display the current session total whenever the play results in a new session total.

Accounts with no activity for 18 months are terminated.

Generally, slot points can only be used to obtain cash. Buffets and other meals are available by request or if offered by a host. The granting of the request is based primarily on one's current slot and video poker play.
