Gaining a real advantage over the casino is not as hard as it may sound. Here are the most important things that are involved, listed in order of most important first:

• Learn to recognize good payoff tables
• Utilize an optimized strategy
• Evaluate slot clubs and promotions

If this is your first serious excursion into video poker, you should start with the best-selling book, Video Poker - Optimum Play. In it, highly optimized strategies for several of the games, including Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild and Joker Wild, have been reduced to about a dozen easy-to-learn Precision Play^TM rules with no significant loss in expectation. The book covers the above subjects, plus many other subjects related to video poker play.

For fourteen years, my newsletter, Video Poker Times^TM, provided complete strategies for new games, covered many related subjects such as bankroll requirements, and kept readers up to date on the availability of good games and promotions. All of the still-useful information from the newsletter is in the book, All The Best of Video Poker Times.

Remember, video poker is the only casino game where the average player can achieve an advantage on every play, but you need to learn an optimized strategy and practice it. To that end, you should also get Optimum Video Poker (software for either Macintosh or Windows).

If you play where 100%-plus games are available (mostly in Las Vegas), YOU CAN play at an advantage while earning complimentary meals and lodging.

Even if you choose to play where such games are not available, these publications will help you to keep your losses to a minimum, and it may be possible to get an advantage when comps and slot club rebates are included.
